How to Install Rain Guards on a Jeep Wrangler

I wanted to put together an easy to follow guide on how to best install rain guards on a Jeep Wrangler since we recently added these to our own Jeep. The steps below will work for any year or model car or truck and is by far the easiest, fastest way to complete the install. Adding Window Visor Shades to your Jeep Wrangler is an upgrade that can not only give your vehicle a wider look, but will also cut down on the wind noise you experience. Its one of the easiest and cheapest upgrades you can do yourself that can really transform the look of your ride! I love being able to crack my windows even in the pouring rain without being soaked. If you smoke then these are a must have addition, but I recommend everyone picking up a set. I’ll be adding them to my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, but the following steps will work for any vehicle.

Choose the Best Window Visor for You!

A lot of different companies offer rain guards in different colors and quality. First think about what color would fit your particular vehicle the best. My choice was easy because I had already purchased most of my upgrades from Rugged Ridge in the Black Matte finish so I knew color wise it was a perfect choice. If you also have that flat black matte color on your Jeep or not a lot of upgrades then the Rugged Ridge Matte Black Window Visor is the perfect choice. It looks great, really high quality material, and comes with a 5 year guarantee!

Clean the Surface Area

Gather some rubbing alcohol and clean the painted surface where the rain guard will be attached. If you don’t have rubbing alcohol soap and water can be used as a substitute. Clean it well making sure all of the dirt and debris is completely wiped away. Make sure you wait until it dries before moving onto the next step. Luckily if you used rubbing alcohol it will only be a few minutes.

Determine the Mounting Position

Hold the window visor up to your window and determine where you would like it positioned. I personally attached my window deflector just a crack below the top to let just a little bit of my orange color out. Just make sure when you move onto the other windows that you keep them at a similar position from the top.

rg5

Remove the Tape Strategically

Once you have an idea of what position you would like the window deflector placed its now time to peel the tape holding the visor. The easiest way to do this is to only remove a little bit, two or three inches from each end then place the window deflector in place. If you accidentally stick it in the wrong spot just gently pull it back and it will release.

rg6

Remove the Rest of the Tape

Once you have both sides lined up and you are ready to permanently attach the visors just grab the ends of tape sticking out from one of the ends where you already pulled it. You may have to lift the middle of the window deflector just a little to get a grip on it. Then just pull the rest of the tape off slowly and firmly.

rg7

Firmly Press Deflector into Place

At that point you are ready to press firmly and strongly against the window deflector to stick it firmly into place.

rg8

Finish the Other Windows

Just follow those same steps for the other windows and you’ll find that this is one of the easiest Jeep Wrangler installs to complete by yourself. Its hard not to love the look of this modification so once you are done take a ride around the block and show it off!

The total install time is around 5-10 minutes. After you complete one window it becomes really easy to finish up the rest. I hope this guide helped some of you out there!
